Explore Chisholm’S Restaurant

Chisholm’s Restaurant, located at 4669 Jenolan Caves Rd, Jenolan NSW 2790, Australia, is a charming dining destination that has garnered positive attention in recent reviews, particularly after a change in ownership and staff. While some older reviews had created skepticism, many visitors have since been pleasantly surprised by the improvements, noting that the restaurant now offers a much better dining experience.

The food at Chisholm’s is diverse, offering dishes that cater to a variety of tastes. Popular selections include the hearty lamb shank with creamy mash and ratatouille, which is served in generous portions, and the 300-gram char-grilled beef sirloin accompanied by a flavorful parsley potato rosti. Seafood lovers will appreciate the fettucine marinara, which is loaded with fresh prawns, mussels, scallops, and barramundi, making for a satisfying and substantial dish. Those craving something lighter might enjoy the perfectly seared scallops with sweet potato mash and basil tomato salsa, a delightful combination that balances flavors beautifully. Even the house-made vegetable curry, a dish that might not immediately come to mind at a non-specialist venue, surprises diners with its depth of taste.

The service is another highlight, with guests mentioning the friendly and attentive staff who go the extra mile, ensuring a personalized touch by remembering returning customers. The atmosphere and efficient service contribute to an enjoyable dining experience, with most dishes arriving quickly and freshly prepared.

While some have pointed out areas for improvement, such as the butter chicken, which could benefit from a more balanced sauce and tender chicken, these are seen as minor flaws in an otherwise well-executed menu. The reasonable prices for the generous portions further add to the appeal, making it a worthwhile choice for a satisfying meal in the area.

I was apprehensive about this restaurant at first due to the bad reviews that were given so far. However, my worries were unfounded and to my surprise, the restaurant was far better than what others make it out to be. The service was great and the waitress was friendly and attentive to our requests. She even remembered us when we went back again two days later for dinner, which was a pretty nice touch. Over the two meals, we ordered 6 different dishes. Glazed pork belly with kaffir lime rice, Pan-seared scallops with sweet potato mash, basil tomato salsa, Braised lamb shank with creamy mash and ratatouille, Char grilled 300 gram beef sirloin with parsley potato rosti, House made vegetable curry and Fettucine marinara, prawns, mussels, scallops and barramundi. The food was better than expected and the prices were pretty reasonable for the amount of food we get. The lamb shank and beef were served in big hearty portions and tasted pretty good as well. The scallops were nicely seared with slight browning on the surfaces and went well with the refreshing tomato salsa. The house made vegetable curry was surprisingly tasty as well, which we did not expect from a place which doesn't specialise in curry. The fettucine marinara was huge with a generous amount of barramundi and seafood in it. It's not fantastic but was decent enough for me to finish it. Of course, don't compare the quality with those you can find in Italian speciality restaurants.

Don’t be fooled by the old reviews, things have obviously changed since then. I ordered the lamb cutlets and butter chicken, both amazing. Everyone in my group enjoyed their food.

Great dining experience! The food was very good, especially the fillet and lamb. Butter chicken needs some work, as the sauce was very watery and the chicken was dry (added into the sauce after the fact, as it's also a vegetarian option if you ask for it). Deserts were also done well, everything came out fast! Most of the bad reviews are fairly old, the restaurant has since changed ownership as well as staff.

We were nervous to eat here, having read the previous reviews. However, it was part of our accommodation package, so in we went. In contrast to the other reviews, our food arrived in a timely manner, the service was lovely, and the food itself was very tasty. None of our party had the steak, so can’t comment on that, but the lamb was very nice. The room itself is nice-some paint peeling and it could use some TLC, but the hint of old grandeur is still there. They had a piano player, which provided a lovely atmosphere-he even played happy birthday along with other staff singing for one of our party when the cake came out. Overall a very enjoyable evening, much better than we were expecting from the other reviews! Breakfast the next morning was also great. It definitely seems to have improved in the last 12 months, if the other reviews are anything to go by!

Before going to jenolan caves I read the reviews about Chisolm's restaurant and wasn't excited to eat there. But did anyways. I found the staff very helpful and friendly at the dinner and breakfast times. My partner and I got steak for dinner and it was cooked perfectly and was so delish. Breakfast was good just your typical buffet breakfast. But def 5 stars!

All of the 1 star reviews incorrectly contextualised their expectations. The hotel is a century old accommodation and not privately owned so, they need to understand there are fair limitations. My fiance and I had an amazing weekend, staff were incredibly nice and accommodating! The food is acceptable and on par with what you would expect from a "3 star hotel" and the staff is the reason why I give 5 stars. We've stayed at places that cost $2000+/night and had very high expectations at those accommodations (obviously) but, all of these reviews clearly need to gain perspective relative to the very affordable costs associated on the menu. Thanks again to the wonderful staff at Chisholms Restaurant!

Had a lovely time. Bar staff were happy to make cocktails not on list. Had the Oberon lamb sausages and pork belly. Think its fantastic supporting local suppliers. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were very friendly and quick. Cant wait to return. Covid safe.

I went to the restaurant for breakfast when it just opened, about 7:30?, the breakfast buffet was fantastic. There were a few people there, not crowded, I was able to pick a bright window table with nice view. It’s definitely one of the best experience. I used to be very late for breakfast at hotel, I learned a lesson that day.
